The Stargazer
The Stargazer
for SJP
He could always find Orion
He of the brown eyes
He with the quiet dignity;
He, who spent a lifetime traveling a journey of no distance:
Seeking circles in world full of corners
Yearning secretly for the seas.
Patient, ever-patient, is the Captain of this ship
The wind blows, and restless are the sails.
Even the rudder begs direction.
Moorings creak and ache – even ancient mariners fear she'll break:
Anchor still prevails.
Yet he could always find Orion;
He of the strong shoulders
He with the passionate soul
He who spent a lifetime illuminating ingénues and acolytes-
Espousing empathy:
Simple synthesis of souls.
At the desk of vain industry he toiled late into the night
And once rose to ponder for a moment:
Cocoon – butterfly – flight.
All nature follows reason – no necessity for rhyme
Still the ship would not set sail –
Said the Captain: "Not yet time."
So patient, ever-patient, bides the Captain true to will;
Perhaps memory of a shipwreck
Causes hesitation,
Forces to hold still.
But that world without a zodiac does not here exist.
Captain, query shiv'ring stars – dare to deny fear and take risks.
Learn that even constellations shift, they are not fixed in time,.
The world follows suit, O Captain
Tis no secret, tis no crime.
Look overhead, beyond the bow
Through the mast kiss'd by the breeze
Set sail, O Captain, find strength within:
Orion always finds thee.
